What Do I Expect Out Of Elected Officials Or Candidates?
I thought, considering what is coming in our reporting, that I should clearly lay out what we feel our standards are. How do we evaluate who we want and what we endorse? Leading the way is transparency. Not just what they do but the state of things. I want to hear the worst and the best from an official. I want to know how they are trying to make things better and I want to hear about it when there are failings. This town is not going to fix itself. This county is not going to fix old issues by itself. The officials are one part of this process. People have to be involved.
From a candidate, I want each candidate to have already researched what the largest issues are and have real plans, not vague platitudes. The public documents are there for the city and county. A candidate should spend as much time doing homework as they do campaigning if they need. We cannot afford a several-month transition while the official finds out the current situation. It should be done by the time they are sworn in to the best of their ability.
What do I expect from a candidate?
Transparency
Research
Real Plans
Follow Through
Under those parameters I will always judge the officials and candidates.
