The Cost of Transparency: One Router, a Camera, and a Council That’s Out of Time.

Six weeks, six weeks is a long time for certain things to happen. People who work normal hours and one job, that is 240 hours. If you take someone who works 2 or 3 jobs and does not require as much sleep, that is a lot. Even at 40 work hours a week, that is a lot of work that can be done. Six weeks ago, Tommy Weber brought up how disturbing it was that the Falmouth Council couldn’t figure out how to film the meetings effectively. Just under that, at 5 weeks, almost 6, I made a comment that said I was 100% willing to donate technical time to get a camera installed, setup, and the sound behind it. Anthony mentioned he had to see what Joe Styer said yet; he contracts a lot of work and works with the city. I have researched him, he is more than competent.

Still, 5–6 weeks is a very long time in terms of what you can get done. And here is the secret: a camera with multiple Bluetooth microphones that can wirelessly transmit the sound, as well as a repeater to enhance the internet signal, would only cost around $1,180

(Logitech PTZ Pro 2 HD camera – $700, Bluetooth Wireless Lavalier Microphone Kit – $350, TP-Link RE550 Wi-Fi Repeater – $60, Tripod – $30, Cables & Mounting – $40).

The repeater is because the Mayor has claimed several times that there is a signal loss in the council chambers.

For those of you that do not know, the internet in City Hall is hardwired. It may not extend to the council chambers, but if you bought a $50 cable (probably less) and a router(I actually have 3 extra routers if you want), you wouldn’t even need the repeater.

Let’s look at a breakdown:

A wired setup with the same HD camera and a wired lavalier mic kit would cost around $1,050
(Logitech PTZ Pro 2 – $700, Wired Lavalier Microphone Kit – $150, 50ft Ethernet Cable – $20, TP-Link Archer AX21 Router – $80, 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch – $30, Tripod – $30, and Miscellaneous Cables & Mounting – $40).
That means if someone were to donate $300, it would cover roughly 25.42% of the wireless setup or 28.57% of the wired setup. Either way, it’s an achievable, affordable goal that has just sat idle for 6 weeks(we will work on the premise, that is all the time) while time, opportunity, and community trust bled out.

These comments are in the images below. Now, I don’t like games or politics at all. The Falmouth Whisper will donate $300 of it. Anyone else want to donate? That way the council can concentrate on what they need to. Also, that way the citizens can get what they need, the ability to watch these meetings that affect the town. Just as the Fiscal Court has meetings that affect the county that we can watch.
On record, Mayor Hazen, isn’t that what you want too? Let’s deal?

I also thought it was great that Tommy Weber donated the tripod so that anyone can film it with a mobile. Would anyone on the council please do that until the time the cameras get installed? I feel like that transparency is what we need.

What do you think, Falmouth?
Please leave your comments. Send your whispers. We really want to hear what you think.
