Recently, we got a little love letter from the Falmouth, KY Police Department in the form of an article calling us out. Cute. While they didn’t sign it, I’ve got a pretty good idea whose keyboard was working overtime.
Let’s clear something up: Cyberbullying is defined as:
“The use of electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of an intimidating or threatening nature.”
Reporting on whispers, rumors, gossip, history, or even plain old-fashioned town talk? Not bullying. It’s called journalism. Uncomfortable truths aren’t the same as intimidation, no matter how badly someone wants them to be.
For the record, we restrict access to our page and posts to those 17 and older, because sometimes the things whispered in Falmouth aren’t suitable for the kiddie table. Grown folks’ business.
And those so-called “harmful” posts you’re wringing your hands over? Every single one of them was brought to us by multiple sources. We don’t publish whispers without hearing the echo from more than one direction. And when we do report, we’re clear: if it’s verified, we say so. If it’s speculation, we label it as such.
Now, for the part you really need to hear:
The Falmouth Whisper isn’t going anywhere. Not today, not tomorrow. Actually, we’re doubling down. For every attempt to silence us, the whispers just get louder.
So to our readers and whisperers: thank you. You are the heartbeat of this page. Keep those whispers coming. And to the folks shaking in their boots?
Stay tuned. We’re just getting warmed up
