Summer’s here, and while we’re grabbing iced drinks and ducking into shade, our pets are doing their best to keep up, fur and all. If you’ve ever seen your dog stretch out belly-down on the tile or your cat go full pancake-mode in front of the fan, you know they’re feeling it too. Most folks know not to leave pets in hot cars (seriously, just don’t), and yes keeping them inside during peak heat is smart. But there’s more you can do to keep your fur babies safe and comfortable when the temps spike. Here are 8 solid tips that go beyond the basics:

DIY Frozen Treats
Freeze a mix of peanut butter and plain yogurt, or even ice cubes with low-sodium broth. Keeps them cool and makes their day a little brighter.

Cooling Towels or Mats
A damp towel fresh from the freezer can be a game changer. Or invest in a cooling mat they’re made for this. Place it where they love to lounge.

Chilled Water, Always
