Don’t Blow Your Cut Grass On The Road

A Message from The Falmouth Whisper: It’s Just Grass… Until It’s Not.

We’ve been asked by more than one Whisper to say something, so here it is:

When you mow your lawn, do NOT blow your grass clippings onto the road. And if you do? Clean it up. Immediately. It may seem harmless. But those clippings can turn a road into a slip hazard that’s no different than loose gravel or black ice, especially for motorcycles. On two wheels, it can mean catastrophic loss of control and potentially a fatal crash. Even in cars, wet clippings can cause traction loss, especially during turns or braking.

It’s illegal in many places.

In Kentucky, while there’s no specific statewide law about grass clippings, you can still be cited for:

Littering. Obstructing a roadway. And if someone crashes because of it? You could be liable for property damage, injury, or even wrongful death.

So please:

Blow clippings into your yard, not the road. If some make it out there, a quick pass with a blower or broom could save someone’s life. This is one of those small things that shows whether you actually care about your neighbors or just pretend to. We all share these roads. Let’s not make them more dangerous than they already are. Stay safe out there. Many local officials already disregard public safety. We have to watch out for each other.
