Shape Your Opinion – Election 2026

Falmouth, you have a year and a couple of months to start shaping the opinion of what you want in the next election. For some of you, the lines on both sides have already been drawn and you know where you stand. For others, maybe you would like to make up your mind a bit more. Either way, you must be involved if you want any effective change in the city and county.
Judge Fields is not running this coming term for Pendleton County Judge Executive. So far, two people have come out and said they are considering running for his open seat. This in itself is not suspect; people run for offices when they feel the calling.
What might be considered suspect by you, and definitely by me, is two lifelong Democrats have changed parties six months before the primary to Republicans: Magistrate Rick Mineer and Anthony Strong, the former Pendleton County School Superintendent.
I try to stay person based and merit based when I vote for anyone. I have lived with the left/right argument all my life. I do not believe that everything can be generalized to that point. I also like to believe there are good people on both sides, just as there are bad people on both sides.
Yet changing your party affiliation six months before a primary or however many it actually has been. This smells suspect.
Moving on to another election topic, the Pendleton County Sheriff. One of the names that has been thrown into the ring and someone who is actively campaigning is Kenneth Hall. Ken Hall is a SGT for the Falmouth Police Department as Investigation Supervisor.
Why is it I have been told by more than one inside source that he lives outside the county but is renting an apartment so he can run for Sheriff? Does he plan on moving here? Will he have dual homes? Is that even allowed? Or is his apartment just to get elected?
In an election cycle that is already gearing up to have nuances and masks, perhaps, Falmouth, you should think about not who is running, but what you want to happen in your town. What issues mean the most to you? What things do you feel need to be fixed?
What would you like to see, and are you happy with what you have seen so far?
What issues mean the most to you? Please share and comment, its a good time to start these discussions now, instead of relying on the people you just know. Hold them accountable for what you want.
