And Why the Falmouth Police Department Just Blinked
Some might wonder, what gives The Falmouth Whisper the right to call itself a news outlet?
Let’s make that plain.
We’re listed on Facebook as a news and media organization. More than that, we act like one. We publish investigative reports. We highlight public safety failures. We cover civic matters and public funds. We post articles, request records, follow up on leads, and protect sources. We provide a platform for voices that have long been ignored. Whether you’re a subscriber to the mainstream press or not, the First Amendment never required a printing press, only purpose. And ours is clear.
So why would the Falmouth KY Police Department, whose job it is to protect and serve, feel the need to block us? Not debate us. Not correct us. Not even ignore us. But block us. What are they worried about?
Blocking a news outlet, no matter how grassroots or digital, is dangerously close to violating the First Amendment. The courts have been clear: when a government agency uses a public platform to communicate with citizens, it cannot selectively silence critics. Just ask the former and current President, who was sued (and lost) for doing exactly that on Twitter. Or look at cases involving city councils, police departments, and public officials across the country – all warned, some sued, for blocking people based on viewpoint.
It’s not just poor optics. It’s unconstitutional. And it may even violate their oath of office.

Every officer swears to uphold the Constitution. That includes the First Amendment. If blocking dissent is how they react to being questioned, then maybe they took the wrong oath. We’ve also heard reports that several of our supporters have been blocked as well. Why? For sharing posts? Asking questions? Having the nerve to care? Why is the Falmouth Police Department afraid of The Whisper? Aren’t they the ones with the badges, the guns, the tasers? What exactly are they so afraid of? While they block media pages and ignore questions, we’re still waiting on the public records request tied to the Bedford House incident. We’ve requested information about an officer alleged to have violently assaulted someone there. So far, silence.
And now word is spreading about another troubling failure to act. No arrests were made this week at the Smoking Pig when five drunks reportedly beat a father in front of his children. Witnesses say it started when the father politely asked the men to calm down. What followed was a brutal beating, a man’s head slammed through a wall, children screaming, and the police showing up to do… nothing.
We’re told Mrs. Thornton is having to press charges herself. That the victim might have to as well. Because the police wouldn’t. Even worse? One young man, apparently misidentified by the Falmouth PD, was arrested and ended up in the hospital from the force used.
But thank God they had time to block The Falmouth Whisper on Facebook.
I guess we’re the threat.
Funny how that works. The good people are the ones that end up feeling afraid. Not of criminals, but of the ones who swore to protect us.
The Whisper isn’t going anywhere.
We’re not intimidated, we’re just getting warmed up.
Send your stories. Send your whispers.
Because the louder they try to silence us, the more we echo.
