Have you ever turned on a garden hose and it just slowly spits water at you? You can’t really water anything, washing your car becomes a chore, and outside of a few minor water games, it’s just not effective. Now imagine living in a city where there aren’t just 14 dead fire hydrants, but 8 more that don’t even have enough pressure to register on a gauge when tested.
According to the most recent report we could find, there are:
8 Hydrants With No Measurable Pressure (Effectively Inoperable):
Hwy 22 East
102 Chapel St
200 Water St
512 Maple Ave
45 Chad Lane
110 Hughes Ridge
302 Hwy 22 East
232 Hwy 22 East
14 Completely Inoperable Hydrants:
400 East Shelby
309 East Shelby
405 Chapel St
200 West 4th St
713 Earl Ave
919 Main St
346 Montjoy Ave
203 North Liberty St
419 Liberty St
Southern Elementary (Second Hydrant)
401 Barkley St
578 US 27 South
105 Ideal St
93 Thomas Lane
While your city was wasting money impeaching a mayor who actually wanted to help and nearly doubling the police department’s budget to $800,000, these life-saving fire hydrants were left to rot. What price is enough, City of Falmouth? You might want to ask your city council and mayor that question. And what are we hearing from them right now on this issue?
Crickets.
Yes, they’ve acknowledged the problem, quietly and continue doing absolutely nothing except talk. Sure they may have another meeting and line up some friends to bid.
It’s disgusting, people of Falmouth. And you should be mad. Very mad.
Just because this city has always been mismanaged, even in the 1990s or earlier doesn’t make it right.
What’s worse is that we’re allowing the entire city government to get away with criminal neglect.
